Children with Special Health Care Needs: Nutrition Care Handbook
The nutrition issues of children with special health care needs and
developmental disabilities are the focus of this new handbook. A project of PNPG and Dietetics in Developmental and Psychiatric Disorders (DDPD) practice groups, this handbook is a revision of an earlier publication, Children with Special Health Care Needs: A Community Nutrition Pocket Guide. It is designed to be a practical resource for practitioners that may see a small number of children with special health care needs in their practice setting.
The handbook includes chapters on growth, diet and nutrition, feeding and eating, non-oral enteral feeding, fluid and bowel problems, and community services and programs. Case studies and clinical tips are used throughout. Readers will find the glossary and resources sections very helpful.
Dietitians who would find this handbook useful are those in community
hospitals, WIC, public health, Head Start/Early Head Start, Child Nutrition Programs, early intervention, home health agencies, private practice, and community clinics. Other health professionals serving children with special needs would find it a helpful resource, including pediatricians, pediatric nurse practitioners, public health nurses, school nurses, and others.
The cost of the handbook is $35 for ADA members and $40 for non-members. It can be ordered from the ADA Product Catalog
