A Change is Going to Come - Public Policy
On January 20, 2009 a new administration will begin and policy will change. Barack Obama and Joe Biden will put forth their plans to jump-start our economy by implementing programs that will affect all of us. An important issue for the new administration is lowering health care costs and ensuring affordable, accessible health coverage for all. This will have an impact on our profession and we as the “experts” in nutrition have an opportunity to provide our expertise on such issues as food safety, child nutrition, nutrition labeling and health care reform.
This year the Public Policy Workshop will also change and be offered as an online Webinar so all members can participate in the outcome of issues that will affect our profession.
Register today for the 2009 Public Policy Workshop at www.eatright.org, under Advocacy and the Profession. Become an active voice in policies that will affect our profession. We must not let laws be made without our input.
- Other ways you can participate in advocacy:

The call... Did you make the call yet?? It will take less than 5 minutes! Why call? For the kids and families we work with every day!! As well as our own professional growth. Who to call? Your Congressman---He or she is about to make some very important decisions regarding nutrition--has your voice been heard yet? You can contact your Congressman's office by calling the Capitol switchboard at (202) 224-3121. What to call about? Ask your Representative to show support for the Child Nutrition Reauthorization by signing onto Rep. McGovern's and Emerson's letter. All you have to do is give your name, address and request for support! Do not fear, you will not be asked about the details of the bill/ letter--your Congressman's office just needs to know you support the legislation--that is all. No better time like the present--please call now!
