PNPG is pleased to announce a webinar which is a “members only” benefit. On November 10th from 10:00 am to 12:noon central time, PNPG will be hosting a webinar on, “balancing the nutritional needs of the very low birth weight infant (VLBW) with human milk.”  The speaker will be Paula Sisk, a dietitian who has over 23 years experience as a neonatal dietitian and 20 years as a lactation consultant (IBCLC).  Paula currently works in the NICU at Forsyth medical Center in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.  In addition to clinical work, Paula is a research instructor in the Department of Pediatrics at Wake Forest University School of Medicine.  Her research and publications focus on the nutritional needs of the premature infant, human lactation, and specifically the health outcomes of feeding human milk to premature infants. Paula’s research shows that using human milk as a portion of the feedings significantly improves health outcomes for this population..  This webinar will address the benefits of feeding human milk, the challenges of meeting nutrient requirements, and vitamin D needs of VLBW infants. This information is timely as it addresses two areas of major concern for the American healthcare industry: positive patient health outcomes and cost reduction.  Paula will discuss how the dietitian can impact the well being of a very vulnerable patient population and the positive role both nutrition and human milk can play.   Topic: Balancing the Nutritional Needs of VLBW Infants with Protective Properties of Human MilkWhen:  November 10th at 10am central time.CPE’s:  2 hoursSpeaker: Paula Sisk, PhD, RD, IBCLC
