Ad Hoc Committees
There are four ad hoc committees under PNPG that will now be availible on www.pnpg.org under the "Officer Page" for each ad hoc committee chair. Stay tuned to see new information and resources listed for the ad hoc committees. See below to see a summary of the four ad hoc committees.
The Obesity Ad Hoc Committee will function to support PNPG members in the area of pediatric obesity. This group will support the work of the Diabetes & Wellness and Weight Management SIG. Work of the Obesity Ad Hoc Committee may include:
- Establish and maintain communication with the ADA Foundation Healthy Weight for Kids campaign and serve as a liaison between ADAF and PNPG.
- Alert PNPG members of policies, developments and emerging issues related to childhood/adolescent overweight and obesity.
- Establish and maintain communication with the ADA evidence-analysis library and serve as a liaison between the EAL and PNPG.
- Work in conjunction with the Professional Development Team in developing educational opportunities for PNPG members working in the area of childhood obesity.
- Work in conjunction with the Member Support Team and the Wellness and Weight Management Specialty Interest Group in addressing members’ needs related to childhood overweight as expressed through member surveys and the PNPG forum.
- Serve as expert reviewers or provide contact information for potential reviewers of ADA publications in need of pediatric obesity experts.
- Serve in ADA and other agency committees and organizations that deal with childhood
obesity.
The Research Ad Hoc Committee will function to support PNPG members in the area of research. Work of the Research Ad Hoc Committee may include:
- Establish and maintain communication with the ADA Research DPG and any other ADA groups involved in research.
- Solicit member input regarding their knowledge needs regarding research and develop an action plan based on this input.
- Develop ways to encourage and support research efforts amongst PNPG members, which may include creating a Research Mentoring Group.
- Respond to questions posted on the PNPG web-forum that deal with challenges and questions of performing pediatric nutrition research.
The Web-based Learning Ad Hoc Committee will function to support PNPG members by developing web-based learning modules according to the perceived learning needs of PNPG members and as advised by the PNPG Executive Committee. Work of this Ad Hoc Committee may include:
- Develop an outline of web-module.
- Coordinate the development of different sections of the module.
- Coordinate the expert review of module sections.
- Work with the Communications Team and Professional Development Team on logistics regarding distribution and housing of web-based modules.
Nutrition Care Process (NCP) Ad Hoc Committee Chair: Sandra Spann MS RD
The NCP Ad Hoc Committee will function to support PNPG members by working to facilitate the implementation of the Nutrition Care Process in all areas of pediatric nutrition care. Work of the Ad Hoc Committee may include:
- Develop a process to review existing Standardized Language (SL) and potential changes or additions to be recommended to the ADA NCP committee to best fit the needs of pediatric practitioners.
- Discuss the need to develop a Pediatric Nutrition Toolkit as a complement to the existing ADA NCP/SL resources.
- Assist PNPG members with the implementation of the NCP and the use of SL within their facilities.
- Respond to questions posted on the PNPG web-forum that deal with challenges and questions of implementing the NCP and utilizing SL in pediatric facilities.
