Such topics as neonatal classification, breastfeeding, neonatal nutrient requirements, nutritional assessment, and dilemmas in enteral and parenteral nutrition for the premature infant will be emphasized. Discussion among neonatologists and nutritionists will be primarily informal. The course will pivot around practical experience with premature neonates in the neonatal intensive care unit. This program will serve as a time to compare and contrast the nutritional practices for rapidly growing infants in the hospital and to discuss and plan for infants’ post-hospital discharge into the home setting.
