1Description of the LEAP/MRT Method of Diagnosis and Treatment of Delayed Food Sensitivity
Jan Patenaude, RD, Certified LEAP Therapist
Many questions have arisen among registered dietitians about the LEAP Diet Protocol (Lifestyle, EAting and Performance) based on the Mediator Release Test (MRT), or LEAP/MRT.

This article will briefly discuss three types of adverse food and chemical reactions and explain why IgE testing is only effective for IgE allergies and why MRT is more effective for identifying Type 3 and 4, non-IgE immune responses. It will also review the various types of IgE and non-IgE allergy testing and how they differ. Finally, there will be a review of a case history of a child with migraines who improved significantly using LEAP/MRT and discussion of how LEAP/MRT is applied in a clinical practice as an effective tool for developing a patient-specific low-antigen diet.
