1Navigating the Pediatric Nutrition Practice Group Website
Carmen Tatum, MS, RD, CSP, Liz Toolan, MS, RD, CNSD
The Pediatric Nutrition Practice Group (PNPG) has been around since 1977, starting with a handful of dietitians who specialized in pediatrics looking to network and learn from each other. In 2009 our current membership is approximately 3,000 strong and growing, with many avenues of networking, education, and communication available to members. One of the biggest changes to our practice group has been our website (www.pnpg.org). Our initial website served basic needs of posting information. Now we have many more capabilities to facilitate better networking, information distribution, and learning from one another. We would like to highlight some features that you may find useful and of which you may be unaware.
2Standards of Practice/Performance for Pediatric RDs
Beth Ogata, MS, RD
PNPG is pleased to announce the publication of Standards of Practice (SOP) and Standards of Professional Performance (SOPP) for RDs in Pediatric Nutrition. Developed by an ad hoc committee and facilitated by the ADA Quality Management Committee, these standards can be used by RDs in pediatric nutrition to evaluate their practice, identify areas for professional development, and demonstrate competency in pediatric nutrition. The documents answer the question, "What are the knowledge, skills, and competencies RDs need to provide safe and effective care in pediatric nutrition?" This document also addresses quality and risk-management issues, such as the avoidance of negative outcomes. The SOP supports monitoring and evaluation of outcomes related to each step of the Nutrition Care Process (NCP).
