Each year PNPG recognizes the outstanding practice and significant contributions its members make toward promotion of pediatric dietitians.

To nominate a fellow PNPG member, please review the following criteria and complete the application.

Award winners will be announced and recognized during the PNPG Member Reception at FNCE. Recipients may be eligible for partial travel support to assist with attendance.

Outstanding Member of the Year

The Outstanding Member of the Year recognizes outstanding leadership contributions to pediatric nutrition and/or maternal and child health. The following are criteria for award selection: (1) PNPG membership for three or more years, and (2) outstanding service, accomplishments, and community outreach in pediatric nutrition or maternal and child health as exemplified by research, publication, or program development. Nominate a deserving colleague for this award. The nomination should include a cover letter stating why the person is deserving of the award and curriculum vitae or resume that outline the nominee’s accomplishments and commitment to pediatric nutrition.

Published Research Award

The award recognizes outstanding research in pediatric nutrition and/or maternal and child health by a PNPG member published in a peer-reviewed journal. Selection criteria are as follows: (1) PNPG membership for at least two years, (2) being first author or having a primary role in the research and manuscript development of a peer-reviewed publication during the previous calendar year describing research applied to pediatric nutrition and/or maternal and child health. The recipient will receive $500 and be recognized during the PNPG member meeting at FNCE.

Research Grant Award

One PNPG Research Grant awards will provide $25,000 each to support research in the area of pediatric nutrition. Preference will be given to emerging researchers to encourage research within their institution. To be eligible for the grant, at least one of the investigators must be a member of PNPG. Data collection must be started within one year of the award. Any manuscripts or materials resulting from the supported research will credit PNPG with the support provided. Award recipients will be required to present a webinar to PNPG members and/or submit a report to Building Blocks for Life The funded project must receive Institutional Review Board for the Protection of Human Subjects approval or granted exempt status before May 15th of the year of application in order for funds to be distributed.

Creative Nutrition Education Award

Eligibility criteria for this award are as follow: (1) applicants must be PNPG members for at least two years prior to applying; (2) the educational approach is used in the practice where the applicant is affiliated or will be implemented within a year of receipt of award, (3) applicants may not win the award more than once in a three-year period; and (4) a commercial firm or a national organization may not have developed the education approach. To be considered for the award, the applicant should prepare a summary or outline of no more than two typewritten pages describing the project (objective, methods, budget, and effectiveness/evaluation). Applicants will be considered for this award based on originality, appropriateness, quality of content, pediatric nutrition application, effectiveness, learner participation, and aesthetics and technical quality (for tools only). The recipient will receive $500 and be recognized during the PNPG member meeting at FNCE.

Recognized Neonatal RDN Award

The Recognized Neonatal RDN Award recognizes clinical, research, education, and service contributions to the area of neonatal nutrition. The following are criteria for award selection: (1) Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (2) Employment in a level 3 or 4 NICU setting equivalent to >10,000 hours. (3) PNPG member for at least program year of nomination. Prior recipients of this award are not eligible to apply. Nominate a deserving colleague for this award. The nomination should include a curriculum vitae or resume of the person you are nominating that outlines their accomplishments and commitment to neonatal nutrition. Nomination must also include a letter of sponsorship from the nominee’s institution from an RDN or professional contact outside the field of dietetics which includes specific examples of the nominee’s accomplishments. Self nominations are accepted.

Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Access (IDEA) Promotion Award

The IDEA Promotion Award recognizes exemplary contributions by PNPG members who have demonstrated exceptional leadership and performance in advancing Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access (IDEA) within pediatric nutrition and related health fields. Two awards will be presented annually: one to a credentialed practitioner and one to a dietetic student.

Practitioner Award:
One $750 award will be presented to a credentialed practitioner (Registered Dietitian Nutritionist or Dietetic Technician, Registered) who has been a PNPG member for a minimum of two (2) years.

Student Award:
One $500 award will be presented to a dietetic student who is a current PNPG member and is enrolled in an accredited degree-awarding dietetic education program (bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral) as of the award deadline (March 15th). Applicants must submit materials that demonstrate exceptional performance and leadership in promoting IDEA within nutrition or other health-focused organizations. Accomplishments may include, but are not limited to, advocacy efforts, program development, mentorship, research, education, or community engagement that advances IDEA principles in the field of pediatric nutrition.

Dietetic Internship/Pre-Professional Scholarship

PNPG is again proud to offer the Dietetic Internship/Pre-Professional Scholarship to current members who are enrolled in an ACEND-accredited program (Dietetic Internship, Future Education Model Graduate Program, or Coordinated Master’s Program). The scholarship is for those intending to pursue a career in pediatric nutrition after completion of their current training program and will be awarded for the upcoming academic year. The amount of the scholarship is $1000. Awardees will be connected with the PNPG mentoring committee to provide tools on how to seek out pediatric experience. Qualifications: (1) Intent to pursue a career in pediatric nutrition after completion of the current program; (2) Member of PNPG.  Preference will be given to a candidate with pediatric experience.

2025-2026 Award Winners

Research Grant Award

Congratulations to Dr. Molly Wong Vega! She is the recipient of the 2025 PNPG Research Grant Award for her project, “Muscle Health and Pediatric AKI: Investigating Ultrasound as a Functional Nutrition Assessment Tool.” This research will investigate the use of muscle ultrasound to assess lean mass and functional status in children with acute kidney injury, with the goal of improving nutrition assessment and outcomes in this vulnerable population.

Molly Wong Vega, PhD, MS, RD, CSP, CSSD, ACSM-EP, is a Senior Clinical Dietitian at Texas Children’s Hospital with over 15 years of experience in pediatric renal nutrition. She holds a PhD in Kinesiology with a focus on Exercise Physiology from the University of Houston, where her research emphasized bridging clinical nutrition and exercise science to enhance care for children with chronic kidney disease and acute kidney injury. Dr. Vega has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and clinical guidelines, and she is a recognized leader in pediatric renal nutrition education. Her work continues to shape interdisciplinary practice and drive innovation in patient-centered care. We congratulate Dr. Vega on this well-earned honor and her commitment to advancing nutrition assessment in pediatric nephrology.

Recognized Neonatal RDN

Congratulations to Katy Wright, MAS, RD, CSP, CNSC! She is the recipient of the 2025 Recognized Neonatal RDN Award and a distinguished Senior Dietitian at UC Davis Children’s Hospital, where she has served since 2018. With a Master’s in Maternal and Child Nutrition and dual specialty certifications, Katy leads nutrition care in a Level IV NICU, contributing to the development of evidence-based neonatal nutrition guidelines and multidisciplinary care models for complex infant populations. Her leadership in NICU specific initiatives has significantly advanced clinical practice. An active educator and ASPEN contributor, she also instructs in UC Davis’s graduate program, shaping the next generation of dietitians. Katy is a sought-after speaker, having delivered numerous presentations at national conferences and to healthcare professionals on neonatal nutrition and infant feeding practices. We congratulate Katy on receiving this award and for her outstanding contributions to neonatal nutrition care and professional leadership.

Creative Nutrition Education Award

Congratulations to Dr. Maggie Jerome, PhD, RD, LD, CNSC! She is the recipient of the 2025 Creative Nutrition Education Award in recognition of her innovative educational module, An Introduction to Neonatal and Premature Infant Nutrition, which combines clinical depth with accessible learning to advance neonatal nutrition training. Dr. Jerome is an Assistant Professor in the Graduate Programs in Human Nutrition at Oregon Health & Science University. A registered dietitian and certified nutrition support clinician, Dr. Jerome holds a PhD in Nutrition Sciences from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Her clinical and research expertise focuses on preterm infant nutrition, body composition, and maternal and child nutrition. She has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals and presents nationally and internationally on neonatal nutrition. In addition to her academic role, Dr. Jerome maintains clinical practice as a NICU/Pediatric Dietitian and actively mentors graduate students and fellows. We congratulate Dr. Jerome on this well-deserved recognition and her outstanding contributions to advancing neonatal nutrition training.
